Chapter 5

The next morning, I crawled out of bed. I peeked over to my clock. 6:32 AM  "It's early" I mumbled to myself. I went down stairs, to find Sydney curled up sleeping. The sound of her breathing was always relaxing to me. I tip-toed down the hall into the computer room and turned it on. Then I walked over to the phone.  Then I called Hannah. "Hello?" Hannah said in a tiny voice, I could tell she had just woken up, too. "Hi Hannah, It's Rose." I said, I realized that I sounded tired, too. "Sorry for calling so early.....I just woke up early today." I said, walking back over to the computer. "Me, too." Hannah said yawning. I looked into the distance staring out, I found myself staring in the direction of the Gym. "So, Are you nervous about the....Competition?" Hannah asked me. "Kind-of. I mean, we only have 2 weeks to practice" I said truthfully . "Don't worry, I feel the same way." Hannah said. Then I heard footsteps down the hallway. "Rose?" I heard the familiar voice, it was Mom. "Yes, Mom?" I asked. "Oh, I just wanted to know if that was you" Mom said to me with a wink. "Rose? Helllooooo?" Hannah said. I giggled a little. "I'm here!" I said. "Okay--" Hannah just said, when she got cut off by her Mom in the distance. "I have to go" Hannah said, I could tell she didn't want to go. "Okay, Bye!" I said. Then I pushed off on the phone, and put it back on the stand to charge.

After breakfast, I hurried to my room to collect my gym bag, grips, and my leotard. Then I set off walking to the gym. It was raining again, I didn't exactly like walking to the gym in the rain, but that would be okay. After about a solid 10 minutes of walking, I finally reached the gym. Today I was about 5 minutes early, so I could take my time. Then something struck me Competition, I sighed. I really did need the extra practice, we only had 2 weeks to train! So today, instead of going and watching the state champions, I headed over to  the mats. I first I practiced my Handsprings, then Splits, followed by a Walkover. Then I headed over to the uneven bars. Oh yeah! I need my grips! I thought to myself. At that moment, I  started running across the gym and reached my locker, by this time, Hannah had gotten to the gym. "Hi Hannah!" I called across the gym waving wildly. "Hi!" Hannah called wildly back to me. After Hannah had reached the mats -- along with me, we started stretching. "Sorry I called you so early this morning, I was just a little anxious" I said. "Oh! It's fine! I woke up early, too!" Hannah said, a ping of excitement in her voice. Then, Kara walked up, followed by Freyya. "Hello" They both said at the same time. Before we got to reply, Coach Anna walked up and nodded toward us. "Thank you girls for starting to stretch before I got here, I was talking to Coach Lydia. You know.....you girls will be there someday." Coach Anna said, it seemed she was looking in the direction of Hannah, then me, then Kara, and finally Freyya. "Has anyone seen Dixie? I hope she isn't late today." Coach Anna said, to me the end sounded kind-of brisk. Just then, Dixie walked up. "I'm sorry, I had a sleepover last night. I'm really so sorry I was late" Dixie said. "It's fine! But for these final days, we would like you to be on time. But that would be starting next week. Since next week, we would only have that week to train." Coach Anna said. My stomach twisted into a knot, two weeks? I asked myself in my head, That's not long at all!. "Now girls, lets go to Beam." Coach Anna said, I was honestly a little nervous about only having 2 weeks. I galloped over to the beam, Hannah and Dixie both catching up to me. Dixie was first, I thought that Beam was her best event, but she had only been in two classes so I didn't know for sure. She completed a perfect Handspring and a good split jump. And a fantastic dismount. My jaw dropped a little, but right after I quickly closed it so that no-one would see. I  Next was me. I completed a good In-Air split, an okay hand-spring, and a great dismount. Next was Hannah, she flew threw her routine like it was effortless. I clapped and smiled. Next was Kara, and she managed to land her dismount! I was proud of her. "I'm proud of you Kara! You landed it! You did it!" Coach Anna said with a smile. "Thanks!" Kara mumbled smiling broadly. Last was Freyya, this time she actually landed her hand-spring. I was glad, I really didn't want anyone to get hurt two weeks before competition. After Freya had finished her routine, we headed over to Uneven Bars. I had been looking forward -- extra! -- all day to the Uneven Bars. They are my favorite thing in Gymnastics. I was up first, I swung on the bars. As always, I felt as if I was flying. Then I completed my split on the bars, and then my dismount. Then I did a finish. Perfect I thought, although It wasn't exactly perfect, I thought it  was good though. I smiled. Next up was Hannah, she did her split, followed by a handstand, and then her dismount. I clapped -- and smiled. I saw that Hannah was smiling, too. Then Kara was up, she was good, she also landed her dismount! "I think Kara has been improving" Hannah whispered to me. "Definitely" I replied. Then was Freyya. She seemed to have improved,  too. Her dismount was wonderful. I didn't expect that. "I guess everyone does have to step up their game a little bit..." I said. "I guess" Hannah said. "I mean, our competition is in two weeks" She continued. "It's so soon..." I said, kind-of worried. "Agreed" Hannah said like a business woman. I giggled. I could hear it in Hannah's voice, too. After the Uneven Bars, we headed over to floor. "Girls, I really want you to all remember your routines, you may get a deduction if you need help or forget your routine." Coach Anna said, "Girls, Please also be sure to be early for the next part of our practice, we once again only have two weeks. I'm very proud of you girls. I really am" Coach Anna said, smiling. At that moment, me and my whole team were smiling.

                                                                            ♥♥♥

After Gymnastics I walked home. I was still smiling, I couldn't get over how proud Coach Anna had seemed. I walked up to my porch and looked threw the cold window. I saw Sydney curled up on the rug in the living room. I smiled at Sydney, too. Then I opened the door and quickly ran in and threw myself on the couch. I was still smiling. After about a solid 10 minutes sitting on the couch and daydreaming about the Olympics, I got up. Then I walked into the kitchen. "Dinner's ready!" Mom said. I walked over to the dining room table and sat down. "You seem happy." Mom said, playfully. "Coach Anna is very proud of the team and how hard we've worked. But, I'm still kind-of nervous about the Competition...I mean, we only have 2 weeks left to train..." I said truthfully. "That's okay. I'm proud of you, too. I remember when you did your first-ever Gymnastics, a tumble roll on the lawn when you were two. Right after the 2004 Athens Olympics." Mom said in awe. "Me too." I said, I stared back to that moment....Then a happy relief went over me. I didn't feel as nervous as I had before. "Thanks Mom" I said. "Your welcome, Rose." Mom said.

                                                                         ♥♥♥

After a delicious dinner of spaghetti, I headed down the hallway to my room. I slipped on my Pajamas, then went back down the hall. "Mom," I said. "Yes, Rose?" Mom said kindly. "Do you.....think I'll go to the Olympics some day?" I asked while biting my lip. "I do," Mom began "As long as you keep training. If you do, I think you'll be like Gabby Douglas." Mom said, smiling at me. I smiled back at her. "Thanks Mom" I said. After that I skipped down the hallway to my room. I saw that Sydney had curled up on my pillow. I walked over to Sydney and gently took her off my pillow. I heard a small 'Meow' come out of her. Then I took her up on my bed and gently set her down again. Then I crawled under my covers and fell asleep, once again, listening to the soft pitter-pater of the rain.

Chapter 4

The next day, I sat at my school desk, it was 2:32. But, it wasn't just that, we had a spelling test! Every Monday my class has a spelling test -- this wasn't a bad thing, I just didn't want to do it today. I had gotten about 3 hours of sleep last night, so my School skills weren't at their best today. I raised my hand, and Miss Hunnington called on me. "Miss Hunnington, Can I please go and get a snack? I'm a little Hungry." I said, I knew I would get no for an answer. "Rose, Get something to eat after class, now follow along with the spelling test" Miss Hunnington said briskly. I sighed, all I wanted to do was get out of the stuffy class room, despite the rain! Hannah turned toward me, "Will a joke cheer you up?" Hannah said, cheerfully. "Uhh, I guess so" I said tiredly. "Well, It's not the best, but here. Knock-Knock" Hannah said "Whos there?" I asked "Orange!" Hannah said. "Orange who?" I asked again. "Orange you glad that your not in the 7th grade class and you don't have to do so much Spelling!" Hannah said, Giggling slightly. I giggled, too. And it also cheered me up, Hannah just had a way of doing it. I sat up more straight now. Miss Hunnington called on me, "Rose, Can you tell us how to spell Hydraulics?", I slumped. That was hard! "H-y-d-r-a-u-l-i-c-s?" I asked, hoping that was right. "Correct" Miss Hunnington said briskly. I checked my watch, 3:18. What? I thought we got out at 3:00! Were late! I thought.

                                                                       ♥♥♥

After the Spelling Quiz, School ended. I pulled on my Sweater and grabbed my Umbrella and headed out the door with Hannah. I grabbed my Backpack and Gym bag and started walking to the Gym, Again with Hannah. After we got there. I could hear Coach Lydia pushing the Older girls. "Come on! I know I never push you like this, But we have a World Competition in 5 Weeks!" Coach Lydia said. As soon as I pulled off my sweats -- in sync with Hannah -- I headed over to the mats, to find that our team had already started Warm-ups -- and talking about yesterday! --. I spotted Leanna in the sitting area, I wouldn't like to be her right now. "Girls, I have a very important announcement to make" Coach Anna paused, and took a deep breath. "We're going to start competing" She said as soon as she let her breath out. I suddenly got very excited  and happy! That lifted my spirits, I got a chance to live my Dreams! All my teammates were over the moon. "Now, we have good news and bad news, which one?" Coach Anna said, Kindly. "Good!" Me and all of my teammates said at the same time. "Very well then, I want you to welcome out newest member, Dixie!" Coach Anna said. "So, Dixie, whats your favorite routine in Gymnastics?" Coach Anna asked, I thought she sounded like a news reporter. "Well, If I had to choose a favorite thing it would probably be..." I could tell Dixie was thinking hard.."Beam" She said finally. "Very well, Girls I'll tell you more about the Competing while we stretch" Coach Anna said. "Then we'll move on to the beam" She said kindly. "Will we get to do Uneven bars or at least bars today?" I suddenly asked, It had just slipped out off the tip of my tongue.  "We'll see" Coach Anna said playfully. As we stretched Coach Anna began to talk about the competition."We'll be competing at one of the Most finest Arenas around the Area. I'll show you our floor routines." Coach Anna said. "But Girls, I have to warn you, You're going into Hard-core Gymnastics, not just Swinging around the bars all day, It's kind-of like the Olympics" She said. Smiles spread across bolth me and Hannah's face's at the same time. I saw someone with auburn hair in the distance, It was Kara. "Now you were going to tell us the bad news...???" I asked nervously. "Yes, Well, It's that...The Competition, is umm...Soon." Coach Anna said, I could tell that she didn't want to tell us it. "How soon?" I asked. "3 Months...." Coach Anna said. I gasped, along with Hannah, Freyya, Dixie, and Kara who had just walked up. "I was hesitant to tell you.." Coach Anna said, as if she had done something terrible and wanted to say sorry. "It's okay!" I piped up. "I'm looking forward to it!" I said happily. "Alright then, Onto the beam!" Coach Anna said brightly. Dixie was up first -- obviously --. I soon found that she was good. She did a nearly perfect Cartwheel, Now I felt like I was competing. But, that was I guess okay. Next up was Kara, And AGAIN stumbled on her dismount. "I know your trying," Coach Anna said to Kara softly, "Just try to practice a little more, maybe coming 4 times a week would help." She finished, still, her voice soft. "I know you can do it" She said, finally finishing her sentence. Next was me, I did a pretty good cartwheel, a good split, and a pretty good dismount. "Wow! Rose, Your left in-air split is getting much better! Those could be Olympic  material!" Coach Anna praised. I smiled. Hannah gave me a cheer, and I stepped back-to-the -back of the line. Hannah was up next. I did a silent cheer for her -- right after she did her perfect dismount! --. "Very very very nice dismount!' Coach Anna commented. Then it was Freyya's turn, she totally fell off the beam! Coach Anna didn't say anything. Next we headed over to Vault. I was first -- Just like yesterday. I thought it was weird, Maybe I was getting better and it would be one of my Olympic events! Well, for now, all I could do is dream. I went first, I flew threw my routine. Today, not one mistake! I smiled right after I landed. Hannah did a silent cheer. I smiled. Next up was Hannah, She was perfect! Her hard work really did pay off. Next was Dixie. Dixie was really good at Vault, just as she had been at Beam -- like Hannah. Dixie ran, hopped on the spring board, pushed on the Vault, and landed on her feet. I was amazed. But, how could someone so new to Gymnastics know all that? I thought. "Hey, Um, Dixie" I said to Dixie. "Yeah?" She asked, I could tell she was nice. "I was wondering....Have you taken...um.,...Gymnastics before here?" I asked a little shyly. "Yeah, I used to train at a different place. But now I'm here." She said. "Oh," I said, I couldn't manage anymore. I hoped she thought I was nice, too. Then my favorite Olympic commercial came on the Radio that someone must have turned on. I smiled. Then it turned off. "Girls, over to the Uneven bars, then Floor." Said Coach Anna. Dixie was first on Uneven Bars, She swung around, she looked as if she were a bird, swooping. Next was Hannah. She was great today! I think she had practiced more. She did a split -- No knees bent! -- and toes pointed. She was born to do Gymnastics! Or I thought so, and Hannah did, too. "Very nice Hannah! You've improved!" Coach Anna praised. "I, Um, forgot to tell you about the competition, There are only 3 spots." Coach Anna said a little awkward. "Wow, it really does seem like were Competing!" I said to my teammates -- Or now my Competitors! --. But nothing would stop me from them being my Teammates -- And Friends --. I was up next on the Uneven Bars, I flew threw, I felt like a bird, Swooping threw the sky....."Rose?" Coach Anna asked. "Oh, I'm sorry." I said. I turned up and went back threw my routine again, and landed with a good dismount. "You've improved, too, Rose!" Coach Anna praised. That made me feel good. "You looked like a bird! A swooping bird!" Hannah said, I could tell by the smile on her face that was a compliment. "Thanks!" I told her. Next was Kara, she was okay, but I noticed her Dismount had gotten better. Then Freyya. "Uhh, Can I get some wat-t-t-t-te-e-r...." Freya said, I knew that was an excuse. "After you take a turn on the Uneven Bars. If you'd like you can just go on the normal bars." Coach Anna said. "I'll take the normal Bars...." Freyya said. We headed over to floor while Coach Anna waited for Freyya. "How does everyone feel about the Competition?" Kara asked as she completed her Handspring. I did a in-air-left split. I couldn't believe it! I actually completed a in-air-split like the Olympic girls! I grinned. After we completed Floor, I started to walk down to my Locker. I started running to catch up to the rest of my Teammates. "Hey, Guys, Do you wanna have dinner at my house tonight? I'd have to ask my Mom, though" I asked my Team. "Sure!" Kara said "Of course!" Hannah said. "I'm busy, I have a family thing" Dixie sighed. "I would love to come, though. If I could." Dixie finished her sigh. "Thats okay, Maybe you can come over tomorrow?" I asked hopefully. "Maybe, I'll ask my parents." She finished. After the conversation was over, I ran to my locker, along with Hannah. We grabbed our gym bags and pulled on our sweats -- In sync! --. After that, we put up our Umbrella's and headed out the Gym door.

                                                                      ♥♥♥

After we got to my house, I asked Mom if Hannah could stay for Dinner. "I don't see why not!" Mom said with a wink. "What would you like, Hannah?" Mom asked. "Well, It's rainy, So maybe something soup-ish?" Hannah said with a giggle. I giggled, too. "How about tomato soup?" Mom asked. "Sure!" Hannah said, still half-giggling. After Mom started cooking Me and Hannah went down the hall to my room. "Wow, I love that poster of the Fierce Five over there" Hannah pointed to my bulletin board. "Thanks!" I said. After finishing the our third game of Apples to Apples Mom called us for Dinner. Me and Hannah had sprung up. I sat down. And Hannah did right after me. "What a shame Dixie couldn't come" Mom said. "How'd you know about her?" I asked, a little rougher than I had meant to sound. "Rose, You told me" Mom said, Playfully. "Oh," I giggled. and a couple seconds later, Hannah joined me.

                                                                        ♥♥♥

After Hannah had left, I went down the hall back to my room. Right after I had put the Apples to apples game away, My cat walked into the room, and curled up on my rug. I pulled on my Pajamas, and Crawled into bed, Listening to the soft and soothing sound of rain.
