Chapter 6

A week had passed since I had been to the Gym -- to be exact, 3 days and 4 hours! --. The weather had been really bad these days, so the bus couldn't run and it was too dangerous to walk home, the wind could swoop us up. I sighed as I sat at my school desk. I sighed again as I finished my spelling, I longed to be soaring on the Uneven Bars, flipping on my floor routine, and pushing up on the Vault. Then Hannah looked at me. "It's okay, Rose. I'm sure we'll be able to go to the Gym today. I think the weather has cleared up enough." Hannah said as if she could read my mind. "You're right. I'm just worried about only having one week to practice, not two anymore." I said truthfully. "It'll be fine. You're totally going to get first on the Uneven Bars. You totally shine on them." Hannah said, then she smiled. "I think you'll make it to the Olympics in that event!" Hannah said a little too loudly. "Thanks! I think you'll make it to the Olym-" Just then, Miss Hunnington cut me off. "Rose, Hannah, we're not talking about the Olympics right now. Now, please turn to page fifty-two in your math books." Miss Hunnington said briskly. I sighed. All I wanted to talk about was the Olympics. And all I was thinking was the Competition. It had crept so close. I knew I shined at Uneven Bars, but someone could take it right away from me. I sighed again. Then I turned to page fifty-two in my math book.

After School, I was on the bus staring out the window. Then, I suddenly realized, the weather was clearing up! Sure, it was still raining super hard, but it had cleared up enough that me and Hannah would walk to Gymnastics! "Hannah! Hannah!" I said, "Uh-huh." Hannah said, she sounded half distracted. "The weather cleared up! That means we can go to Gymnastics today!" I said with happy relief. "Yay! I can't wait!" Hannah said, I could tell that she was smiling, too.

As soon as the bus arrived at Gymnastics, Me and Hannah were the first off of the bus. Then we burst into the Gym. I looked out onto the mats, seeing if anyone was there already. I already knew that Kara went to a different school that was further away, so she was a little bit late sometimes. Then I looked over to where the  advanced girls were. They weren't there! "Hannah, did you notice that--" "That the Advanced girls were gone? Yes!" Then I giggled a little, and Hannah did too. Then I walked over to my locker and took off my sweats. Hannah did the same. I looked around the Gym for a second time. I spotted Coach Anna chalking up the Bars and Beam. Then I started running over to the mats -- In sync with Hannah! Then I sat down and started stretching, along with Hannah. After about five minutes of stretching, I heard the Gym doors open, it was Dixie. I waved at her and smiled. Hannah did the same. Then Dixie waved back. About a minute later, Dixie reached the mats. "Hi" I said to her. "Hi! Was I late today?" Dixie asked. "Nope! You were on-time!" Hannah said. "That's good, the traffic was horrible where I was coming from. It was probably the bad weather." Dixie said. "Girls, can you come over to the Beam for a second." Coach Anna called to us. At that moment, I started bolting to the Beam. "Sit on the beam, please." Coach Anna said again. "Well Girls," Coach Anna began, "Your competition is in one week, Next Saturday" Coach Anna continued, "I think we really have to make the most of our time here, this means no goofing around." Coach Anna said. I knew she tryed to sound kind, but this time, it just didn't work. After the whole team agreed, we started warming up.

Since Me and Hannah had already warmed up, we moved onto Beam. But by the time we got there, everyone else was done Warming up, too. Dixie was first, She did a nearly perfect hand-spring, a super great in-air split, and a fantastic dismount. I saw her smiling as she landed her dismount. "I wish I could do that Dismount." I said in awe. "Me, too. Rose, You're the best on the team at Uneven Bars, or I really think so." Hannah said, "And you really seem to enjoy them." Hannah continued, "You were born on the Uneven Bars!" Hannah finished, giggling. I giggled, too. Next up was Hannah, she did a great handspring, a very good in-air split. But right when she was in the middle of the Beam, Coach Anna said, "Hannah, how about we try a Salto.". I was shocked, that's what they did in the Olympics! "I'll need to help you, though." She finished. I watched as Coach Anna walked over to the middle of the Beam, and helped Hannah do a Salto. "I don't exactly understand what a Salto is...." Freyya said, I could tell she sounded kind-of embarrassed. "It's okay, Freyya." Kara piped up, "I barely know, either." She finished. "A Salto is just a fancy name for Flip." I said. "Ohhh...Thanks Rose!" Freyya said. "Your welcome" I said back to Freyya. After Hannah had completed her successful dismount, it was my turn. I mounted the Beam, Did a good handspring, an great in-air split, and a great dismount. I smiled as I landed on two feet. It felt great to be to the Gym again after three days. That might not seem very long to some people, but I had really missed it. Next was Kara, she completed a good in-air split, a good handspring, and a great dismount. "Oh, and girls....." Coach Anna said, "I have some news....." She continued. "Everyone on the team isn't going to get a spot to compete, we are going to have to choose the best of the best Gymnasts of your level. And you know girls, you are the best Gymnast's at your level." Coach Anna continued. "And we are competing against other Gyms. But I think you already knew that." Coach Anna finished. My mouth dropped. "We are....The.......best of our level?" I asked, in astonishment. I didn't think I was super good. "Yes girls. You have all worked so hard, training since you were three. And some of you, even two and a half." Coach Anna said. "Awesome!" Everyone said in the team at the same time. Next, we moved to Floor. Hannah was up first, she did a great handspring, a great in-air split, and a almost perfect walk-over. next up was Dixie, she did a good walk-over, a great handspring, and an okay in-air split. Then it was Kara's turn, she did everything good. I saw her smiling when she stuck her landing on her Handspring. Then was me, I did a great in-air split, a good handspring, and a great walkover. I also completed my routine with a smile. Next up was Freyya, as soon as Freyya sprung into her handspring, something struck me. Was Leanna going to be able to compete? I sighed. Leanna had gone out early in the season because of an injury. I looked into the viewing area where Leanna was sitting. Then I turned  my head back then looked at the wall clock. 5:30. Practice had been way longer then I had thought! "Girls, I'm sorry, but we're out of time. I'm sorry we don't have enough time for Uneven bars or Vault today. I promise that tomorrow we'll do Uneven bars and Vault first." Coach Anna said. Right after Coach Anna had announced that, I started running to my locker. I opened my locker, pulled out my sweats, put them on -- including umbrella, rain boots, and my raincoat!--, pulled my gym bag onto my back, said goodbye to everyone, then I ran out the door and onto the bus with the rest of the team.

On the bus, everyone was talking. "Hannah," I began. "Yeah?" Hannah replied to me. "I---" I got cut off, "Wait! I have a Halloween joke for you!" Hannah said. "Okay!" I said, I always liked Hannah's jokes. "Why did the skeleton climb a tree?" Hannah asked me. "Hmmm......Because....umm.....The skeleton wanted to?" I asked Hannah, I knew that wasn't the answer, but I couldn't think of a better answer. "Nope! Because a dog was after its bones!" Hannah said, giggling. "Ohhhhh!" I said, I giggled, too.

After the bus arrived at my house, I said goodbye to Hannah then I raced off the bus and into my front door. The first thing I did was look at the calender, Friday, November 2nd, 2012. "Hi Mom" I said. "Hello Rose! How was School and Gymnastics, today?" Mom asked me. "Good. Did you notice that my competition is in two days?" I asked Mom, then it actually struck me, two DAYS?!?!?!?!?!? That isn't barely any time! I thought. "Wow! I didn't realize it was so soon. Come into the kitchen for dinner, I made your favorite!" As soon as Mom said 'I made your' I was already running to the kitchen. I saw a dish of homemade-pizza. I sat down and started eating the pizza. "It's really good!" I told Mom. Mom winked at me. "Thank you." Mom said me. "Your welcome." I said.

After dinner, I walked down the hallway to my bedroom. I saw Sydney curled up on top of my desk, I smiled and gently picked her up and put her down in her bed. Sydney is my cat who likes to curl up in strange places and sleep. Then I quickly changed into my Pajamas and crawled into bed. I could still hear the giant gusts of wind, and the pouring-down rain.

Authors note: Sorry this chapter was late! Let me tell you, these take forever to write. Plus I'm pretty busy these days :P. But I still find time to write! :)
